Why does my business need a website in 2026?

Why your business needs a website in 2026: a simple way to decide for yourself, based on how customers search for you and how they choose you today. Honest, with no made-up numbers.

You've been turning the question over in your head for a while now: does my business really need a website in 2026, or are my Facebook page and WhatsApp enough? It's an honest question and it deserves an honest answer, not a sales pitch. We, the MPO Web Studio team in Cluj, work every day with small business owners who have sat right on this fence. Instead of telling you "everyone needs a website," let us give you a simple way to decide for yourself, based on how people find you and how they choose you today.

In short: if you rely on customers who actively search for you (on Google, on the map, through recommendations that they then check online), a website is no longer optional. If you live exclusively off customers you bring in by hand, from a small area where everyone already knows you, you can probably wait a bit longer. Below we explain why, with no made-up numbers and no inflated promises.

What has actually changed by 2026

Many business owners still picture the website of a few years ago: "a website = an online brochure nobody reads." In the meantime, people's behavior has changed in three ways that affect you directly.

First: people check you out before they call. They hear about you from someone they know, but they still look you up on their phone to see who they're dealing with. If they don't find anything solid, the recommendation goes cold.

Second: search has partly moved to AI assistants and to the summaries at the top of the Google page. These pull information from clear, structured sources on real websites, not from a social media profile. If you want to be among the answers an AI assistant gives someone in your area, you need a source of your own that it can read. We wrote about this in detail in what AEO/GEO is.

Third: Google shows people nearby businesses on the map, and they compare them on the spot. A website linked to your map profile makes you look complete and serious next to a competitor who only has a phone number.

The four questions that tell you whether you need a website

Instead of general arguments, answer these four honestly. If you tick even two of them, a website brings you money, not just image.

  • Do customers look you up on Google or on the map before they decide? If so, you want to show up there with something that inspires trust, not with an empty profile.
  • Are you losing customers because nobody can find you in the evening or on weekends? A website answers questions and takes requests even when you're out on a job or asleep.
  • Does your direct competition already have a website? If so, in every comparison you start with a disadvantage that nobody sees but that still counts.
  • Are you selling a service the customer has to understand before they buy? The bigger the decision (price, trust, duration), the more they need to read about you in peace.

"But I have Instagram and WhatsApp" — why it's not the same thing

Social media is excellent for reaching people and showing what you do. The problem is that it isn't yours, and it doesn't make you findable when someone is actively searching. On a platform you're a tenant: the rules change, your account can be blocked by mistake, reach drops whenever the platform decides, and your list of followers doesn't belong to you.

The website is your property: the domain, the content, the customer data all stay under your control. Best of all, the two work together, with social media sending people to your website, where they read the details and leave you a request.

How much it costs and why it's an investment, not an expense

We understand that price is what's holding you back. The good news is that a website doesn't have to be expensive to do its job. With us, a landing page (a single page that convinces and collects requests) starts at 290–490 €, a presentation website at 490–890 €, and a larger one with 7+ pages costs between 890 and 1,500 €. If you want to sell online, an online store starts at 690 €, and monthly maintenance is from 29 €/month.

Seen as an investment, it's often the cost of the few new customers a website can bring you over a year. What matters is that you don't pay for pages you don't need. If you work locally, also read about building a website in Cluj and about local SEO, and for a breakdown of each price we have a whole article, how much a website costs, explained transparently, with no surprises.

If you're still on the fence, that's perfectly normal and you don't have to decide today. Send us a few details about what you do, and we'll put together a free website mockup with your company's name on it, so you can see for yourself how it would look before spending a single penny.

Frequently asked questions

I already have a Facebook and Instagram page. Do I really still need a website in 2026?+

It depends on how customers come to you. Social media helps you reach people, but it almost never shows up in Google searches and it isn't your property, the platform can change the rules or block the account. A website is yours, it shows up in searches and it's also read by AI assistants. If people search for you actively before they decide, you need a website. The two work best together, with social media sending people to your website.

How much does a website for a small business cost in 2026?+

At MPO Web Studio, a landing page starts at 290–490 €, a presentation website at 490–890 €, and a larger one with 7+ pages between 890 and 1,500 €. An online store starts at 690 €, and monthly maintenance from 29 €/month. The final price depends on the number of pages and features, and we tell you clearly what's included in each offer before we start.

Will a website guarantee me new customers?+

No serious person can guarantee an exact number of customers, nor first place on Google. What a well-made website can do is make you findable when people search for your services, answer questions around the clock and collect requests at any hour. That increases the chances you'll be chosen, but the result also depends on demand, area and competition.

What does it mean that a website is also read by AI assistants?+

More and more people ask an AI assistant or read the summary at the top of the Google page instead of clicking on the results. These systems pull information from clear, structured sources, meaning real websites, not from social media profiles. A well-organized website of your own gives you a chance to be among the answers recommended to someone in your area, something a Facebook page cannot do.

Can I see what the website would look like before I pay anything?+

Yes. We put together a free website mockup with your company's name on it, so you can see exactly how it would look before spending anything. You give us a few details about what you do, and we build the demo. Only after you like it do we discuss the actual build.
