The Most Common Mistakes on Small Business Websites in Romania (and How to Fix Them)
Seven mundane mistakes that cost customers every day: a site that breaks on phones, a hidden contact number, zero prices, copy about the company instead of the customer. A 1-minute test for each — and what fixing them costs.
The most common mistakes on small business websites in Romania are surprisingly mundane: the site breaks on phones, the contact number is hidden or can't be tapped, the copy talks about the company instead of the customer, prices are missing entirely, and the information is years out of date. Not one mistake on this list is about expensive technology — they're all about how the site is thought through. And all of them can be fixed, often without rebuilding anything from scratch.
We're the MPO Web Studio team from the Cluj / Cluj-Napoca area, and we work 100% remotely with small businesses across Romania. The list below isn't theory: these are the mistakes we run into most often when we look at company websites before a first conversation. Treat it as a free inspection.
1. The site breaks on phones
The classic scene: someone looks for a plumber at 9:30 pm, from the couch, phone in hand. They land on your site and find ant-sized text, a menu that won't open and a button half off the screen. They don't zoom, they don't persist — they hit "back" and call the next name on the list.
The test takes one minute: take out your phone and open your own site. If you have to zoom to read or to hit a button, you're losing customers every day, silently.
2. Nobody learns in 5 seconds what you do and where
"Welcome to our website!" says nothing. The first section has one job: answer three questions — what you do, for whom, in what area. "Plumbing services in Cluj and surroundings. Same-day call-outs." beats "Quality and professionalism since 2008." every time.
3. The phone number is hidden — or can't be tapped
You find it in the footer, on the Contact page, sometimes only inside an image. On mobile, the number must be a button: one tap and the phone rings. Same for the address — one tap and the map opens. Every extra step between the visitor and a call means customers dialing your competitor instead.
4. The copy talks about the company, not the customer
"Our company was founded in 2011 and offers a full range of services..." The customer isn't looking for your company's history; they're looking to solve their problem, today. The simple rule: for every paragraph, ask "what does the reader gain from this?". The company story has its place — on the About page, not at the top of the homepage.
5. Prices are missing entirely
The fear is always the same: "if I show prices, competitors will copy me." The reality: competitors find out your prices anyway, with one phone call. The only one left in the dark is the customer — and a customer who sees no price reference at all leaves, assuming it's either too expensive or that something is being hidden. You don't need fixed rates for everything; a "from..." is enough as a reference point.
6. The site looks abandoned
The holiday schedule from two years ago, the last blog post from 2021, "© 2019" in the footer, services no longer offered. A visibly neglected site sends exactly the opposite of the intended message: if you don't take care of your own website, how careful will you be with my job? The fix is cheap: 30 minutes a month, on your calendar, or a maintenance subscription someone else takes care of.
7. Expecting the site to bring customers on its own
A good site is half the journey. The other half, for a local business, is being on the map: a completed Google Business Profile, linked to the site, with real reviews. A site without the profile is like a beautiful shop window on a street nobody walks down.
The quick test: 7 mistakes, 7 checks
| The mistake | The 1-minute test |
|---|---|
| Breaks on phones | Open the site on mobile: can you read without zooming? |
| Unclear what you do | Show someone the homepage for 5 seconds: can they say what you sell and where? |
| Hidden phone number | Can you call with a single tap from mobile? |
| Copy about "us" | Count "we / our company" vs. "you" |
| Zero prices | Is there at least one "from..." on the site? |
| Abandoned site | What year is in the footer? When did you last change anything? |
| No local presence | Do you show up on the map when searching from another phone? |
How much does fixing — or rebuilding — cost?
Honest to the end: not every site with mistakes needs to be rebuilt. If the structure is healthy, targeted fixes are the cheap and fast option. But if the site is built on an old theme, untouched for years, patching often ends up costing more than a new site — we broke down the math in our guide on how much a website costs. Our price references:
| Type of website | Price |
|---|---|
| Landing page | 290 – 490 € |
| Business website | 490 – 890 € |
| Online store | from 690 € |
| Monthly maintenance | from 29 €/month |
| AEO/GEO optimization | from 290 € |

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my website has these mistakes?+
Run the test from the table: open the site on your phone, show someone the homepage for 5 seconds, try to call with a single tap. If you fail two or more checks, you're losing customers right now. Or send us the link on WhatsApp and we'll tell you honestly what we'd fix — and what isn't worth touching.
Do I need to rebuild the site from scratch, or can the mistakes be fixed one by one?+
It depends on the foundation. If the platform is current and the structure is healthy, targeted fixes are enough and much cheaper. If the site sits on an old theme that hasn't been updated in years, repeated patching usually ends up costing more than a rebuild — we'll tell you straight which situation you're in, before you pay anything.
How much does fixing these problems cost?+
Targeted fixes usually fit within a maintenance subscription from 29 €/month. If a rebuild is needed: a landing page costs 290–490 €, a business website 490–890 €, and an online store from 690 €. AEO/GEO optimization starts at 290 €.
My site was built by an acquaintance on WordPress or Wix. Can you work on it?+
Most of the time, yes — we just need access to the platform. If that particular builder doesn't allow the necessary fixes (it happens with some closed platforms), we'll tell you directly and show you the alternative, with clear costs, before you decide anything.
If I fix all the mistakes, will I reach #1 on Google?+
Nobody serious can promise the #1 spot — ranking depends on competition, history, reviews and many other factors no agency controls. What you realistically get: a site that stops losing the visitors who already arrive, and a local presence that makes you findable. That's the part of the equation you actually control.
