Home Services: How to Show on Your Site That You're Not a Scam
Anyone letting an unknown tradesperson into their home has one question. Here's how your website answers it — concretely.
When you call someone to your home — an electrician, a plumber, someone to fix the boiler or the washing machine — it isn't only about the work. It's about letting a stranger through your front door. And if the person is home alone, especially a woman, the fear isn't an overreaction. It's normal and sensible.
So before they ever call, people open your website with one question in their head: "Can I trust this person inside my home?" The good news is that trust isn't won with slogans like "maximum reliability" or "the best in the area." It's won with concrete details anyone can verify. Let's look at exactly what calms that fear — and what makes people close the tab.
Show who you are: a real face and a real name
The strongest trust signal is also the simplest: let people see who you are. A real photo of you or your team — not a stock image of some person in overalls who isn't you. A name. The town you work from.
"I'm Andrei, I work with my brother out of Cluj-Napoca, in Cluj-Napoca" reassures far more than any badge saying "quality guaranteed." A real face says: I'm a person, not an anonymous account that appears and vanishes.
Add a clear way to reach you — phone and WhatsApp — and at least the area you cover. When someone sees an identifiable human they can talk to first, half the fear is already gone.
Proof they can check, not bragging
Anyone can write "thousands of happy customers." Nobody believes it. What people believe is evidence they can verify themselves:
- Reviews with real names, ideally linked to Google, where they know you can't edit them.
- Real photos of your own jobs, taken on your phone — a tidied-up electrical panel, a replaced pipe — not flawless stock shots.
- Maybe a short clip from a finished job.
And a tip to give the reader directly: be suspicious of anyone promising "guaranteed #1 on Google" or "the best in the country." Serious tradespeople show what they've done; scams sell superlatives. Concrete proof, even modest, beats any inflated promise.
Price: the hidden fear nobody talks about
The second fear, right after safety, is money: "they get in, then pad the bill and I've got no way out." It's the fear of being cornered, with the person already in the house.
You don't need an exact price for every job — often it isn't possible. But you can explain clearly how it works:
- What the call-out and diagnosis cost, or whether they're free.
- That you give an estimate before you start, not after.
- That the work is paid on a receipt or invoice, not "cash, off the books, no paperwork."
Being transparent about price doesn't make you cheaper. It makes you trustworthy. And someone who understands upfront what they're in for calls far more easily.
The details that matter to someone home alone
There are small things that make a huge difference to someone waiting for a stranger at the door. Put them on your site or say them when booking:
- You confirm the appointment with the name of the person coming and the time window.
- You message on WhatsApp when you set off — "I'll be there in 20 minutes."
- The person has ID, a branded shirt, or something that identifies them at the door.
- The client is welcome to have someone they trust present, no problem at all.
None of these details are about the work. All of them are about showing the person there's nothing to fear. When you write them out plainly, you send exactly the message they need: "you're safe with us."
Warning signs — and how we can help
Do a simple test: look at your own site as if you were a woman home alone. What scares her and makes her close the page?
- Only a phone number, with no name or face.
- Photos obviously pulled from the internet.
- "Guaranteed #1" and superlatives everywhere.
- No verifiable review, no service area, no trace of a real person.
If you recognize a few of these, you're not a scam — your site just looks like one, and you're losing good clients because of it.
At MPO Web Studio, that's exactly what we build: a site that shows the person behind the work, the real proof, and clear pricing. We work from in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, but deliver nationwide, entirely remotely. We can even prepare a free demo of your site so you see the result before paying anything. Send us a message on WhatsApp and we'll show you.
Frequently asked questions
Does a website really matter if my clients come from referrals anyway?+
Yes, even then. More and more people, even when a friend sent them, look you up online before letting you into their home. A site that shows who you are confirms the referral. The lack of one, or a site that looks abandoned, casts doubt on it.
I don't have reviews yet. What do I put instead?+
Start honestly from where you are. Show real photos of your own jobs, your name and town, and explain simply how you work. Then ask every happy client for a Google review. Within a few months you'll have a page that stands on its own. Honesty now inspires more trust than invented reviews.
Do I have to put exact prices on the site?+
Not necessarily, and often you can't, because it depends on the job. But explain the process: what the call-out costs, that you give an estimate before starting, and that payment is on a receipt or invoice. Transparency about how the price is reached matters more than a fixed number.
Does a photo of me really make a difference?+
Yes, more than you'd think. For someone about to let a stranger into their home, a real face turns an anonymous account into a person. It doesn't need to be a studio shot — a clean photo where it's clearly you is enough.
How long until I have a site that inspires trust?+
Less time than you'd expect. We can prepare a free demo of your site before you pay anything, and everything is done remotely, wherever you are. Message us on WhatsApp, tell us what you do, and we'll show you what it could look like.
