A website for a cosmetics store: how to turn Instagram browsers into customers who come back for a refill

For a cosmetics store, the money isn't lost on the first sale but on the second one that never comes. Here's what a site looks like that sells a brand-organized catalog, lists INCI ingredients honestly, and brings the customer back for a refill.

For a cosmetics store, the money isn't lost on the first sale. It's lost on the second one, the one that never comes. Someone discovers your cream on Instagram, buys it, uses it for two months, runs out and... looks for it on another site because they no longer remember what it was called or where they got it. A well-built website for a cosmetics store exists precisely to catch that second moment: the refill. The rule we work by, the MPO Web Studio team from Cluj-Napoca, in Cluj-Napoca, is simple: every product must be easy to find, easy to understand and easy to reorder — even from a phone, at 11 p.m., with a child in your arms.

We're a 100% remote team, we work with stores across Romania, and below we show you concretely what matters for a cosmetics website, which mistakes steal your sales, and what it costs — with no inflated promises and without telling you we'll take you to "number 1 on Google."

Why a cosmetics store needs a website, not just Instagram

Instagram is the shop window, but it isn't the cash register. On social media a customer can't filter "vitamin C serum for sensitive skin under 150 lei," can't read the INCI list, can't compare two foundations, and can't come back three months later to order the exact same product. Every time someone DMs you "do you still have that cream?", you lose the sale in the gap between the question and the answer.

An online cosmetics store solves this because it's organized, not just pretty. Catalogs by category (face, body, hair, makeup) and by brand let the customer browse the way they think, not the way you happened to post. And an account created on the site gives you what Instagram never will: order history, so the person taps "reorder" instead of searching from scratch.

The feature that matters most: a filterable catalog with INCI in plain sight

If you keep only one thing, keep a well-built catalog. In cosmetics, the buying decision is a trust decision, and trust comes from information, not glossy photos.

Concretely, that means:

  • Real filters, not decorative ones: by skin type (dry, oily, combination, sensitive), by concern (acne, wrinkles, dark spots, hydration), by brand, by price, and by "fragrance-free / vegan / cruelty-free" where relevant.
  • The full INCI list on every product. It's a legal labeling requirement, but above all it's your selling argument to the customer who is allergic to a certain ingredient and checks it before buying. A store that hides its ingredients loses exactly the informed customer — the one who buys a lot and often.
  • A "free-from" filter on sensitive ingredients (parabens, alcohol, fragrance) — for reactive skin, this is the first thing someone looks for.
  • Real stock, clearly shown. Nothing burns trust faster than an order cancelled because the product was actually out of stock.

A catalog built this way doesn't just sell more; it also cuts DM questions and returns, because the person knows exactly what they're buying.

What a cosmetics site that actually converts looks like

A site that sells isn't the one with the most animations, but the one that removes every bit of friction between the customer and the "add to cart" button. Here's what we put in every store:

  • Samples with the order. The option to add 2-3 samples (free or for a few lei) to every order is the cheapest way to make a customer try a new product they otherwise wouldn't have risked. Many 150-lei refills start from a 2 ml sample.
  • A visible loyalty program. Points on every order, a discount on the third purchase, a small surprise for a birthday. In cosmetics, consumption repeats (the cream runs out), so loyalty isn't a nice-to-have, it's the engine of the business.
  • Transparent delivery, calculated upfront. Cost shown, realistic timeframe, a clear free-shipping threshold ("free delivery over 200 lei"). That threshold raises the average basket better than any promo banner.
  • Reviews on the product. In cosmetics, social proof sells more than the description. See our guide on how to get Google reviews.
  • A short, mobile-optimized checkout, because most cosmetics orders come from a phone, in the evening.
  • A "refill" block that shows customers what they've bought before, so the second order takes three clicks, not ten.

If you also have a physical shop or in-store pickup, your local presence becomes important. It's worth reading about local SEO and about what a Google Business Profile is, so people in your town find you when they search for "natural cosmetics + your town."

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a full online store or is a presentation site enough?+

It depends on how many products you have and how you sell now. If you have dozens of products and want people to order and pay by themselves, anytime, you need an online store (from €690). If you work with WhatsApp orders and just want a beautiful, credible catalog with brands and INCI, a presentation site (€490–890) is enough to start and can be turned into a store later.

Why is it important to show each product's INCI list?+

Labeling cosmetic ingredients is a legal requirement, but on the site it also becomes a selling tool. A customer with sensitive skin or an allergy checks the ingredient before buying; if they don't find it on your site, they buy from a competitor. A visible INCI list brings you exactly the informed customer, who buys often and returns rarely.

How do samples help me sell more?+

A 2 ml sample added to an order costs very little but lets the customer try a new product risk-free. It's the cheapest way to start a 100–200 lei refill. On the site we add the option to include samples at checkout, so the person tests now and orders the full product next time.

Can I update my own products and stock?+

Yes. We build your site with a simple panel where you add products, prices and stock without code. If you'd rather not deal with it, we have a maintenance package from €29/month in which we update the products and stock and do a monthly backup.

How do I get customers to order a second time?+

Through three things we build from the start: an account with order history and a "reorder" button, a loyalty program with points or a discount on repeat purchases, and a "refill" block showing what they've bought before. In cosmetics, consumption repeats, so the second order is the one that makes your profit.
