Beauty Salon SEO: Get Found on Google by Clients Near You

If you run a beauty salon, hair salon or barbershop, new clients find you on Google when they search for something very specific: a Japanese manicure in their neighbourhood, a barbershop near the office. What brings bookings from those searches is not one more Instagram post. It is a complete Google Business Profile, service pages Google can read, and real reviews that say what was done and by whom.

Instagram stays your shop window. We work on the place where clients actually decide: the map, with price, duration and the booking link one tap away.

“Japanese manicure” plus the neighbourhood: how clients choose

Searches that turn into bookings are short and local. Romanian Autocomplete suggests „manichiură japoneză cluj” (Japanese manicure Cluj), „manichiură pedichiură cluj”, „barbershop cluj mărăști” or „salon de înfrumusețare” followed by a neighbourhood. Someone typing this wants one specific service, close to home or work.

For these searches Google shows a map with a few salons first, then the regular results. Google says the map order depends on three things: relevance (how well your profile matches the search), distance, and prominence (reviews, mentions, your website). You cannot change distance, so a salon usually wins in its own area, not across the whole city. The same goes for “near me” searches.

Booking platforms often appear below the map. A listing there is useful, but it is their page, not yours: you do not decide what appears next to your salon. Instagram is your shop window and portfolio, but a feed of posts is a poor answer to “how much is a pedicure and how long does it take”. That answer needs to live on your website and in your Google profile.

Google profile, prices on the site and a booking link

In the SEO Foundation we make the fixes ourselves instead of handing you a to-do list:

  • your Google Business Profile set up properly: a primary category that says what you are (beauty salon, hair salon, barbershop or nail salon) and as few extra categories as possible, a service list with prices, your real opening hours and a booking link (your own system, or a Google partner booking provider where available);
  • the structure of your service pages (gel polish, Japanese manicure, pedicure, haircut, beard trim, lash extensions), each with price, duration, what is included and photos taken in your salon: we fix the pages you already have, and how many new pages we write is agreed in the offer;
  • short stylist pages (experience, specialities, which services they do), if we include them in the offer;
  • your Instagram linked from the site and the profile, so the portfolio stays one tap away.

On Local, the profile follows the rhythm of the salon: photos of new work, holiday hours and posts ahead of the busy dates, with your name, address and phone number identical on booking platforms too.

On Growth, the articles answer what clients ask before they book: how a Japanese manicure differs from gel polish, or how to choose bridal make-up and when to book it.

Reviews for discounts, Botox in the salon, filtered photos

  • Keywords in the profile name. “Salon X – cheap manicure Cluj” breaks Google's rules and can get the profile suspended. The name stays your real one.
  • Reviews in exchange for something. Do not offer a discount or a free treatment for a review, and do not ask only happy clients. Google forbids both, and we neither do nor recommend it.
  • Procedures a salon cannot legally offer. Botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid injections are medical acts in Romania, reserved for licensed doctors registered with the College of Physicians, and there have been criminal cases over such procedures done in salons. We do not build pages or do SEO for them. If you work with a doctor, the College's advertising rules apply.
  • Before/after photos without consent or with filters. We only use photos the client agreed to, without edits that change the result; otherwise it is misleading advertising under Romanian Law 363/2007.
  • Product claims. What you say about a cosmetic product has to be truthful and backed by evidence (EU Regulation 655/2013).
  • Unlabelled influencer collaborations. If a post is paid or bartered, it has to be clear that it is an ad.

And we do not promise first place or a number of reviews.

8 March, wedding season and the rest of the calendar

The technical fixes and your Google profile are done in the first 2–4 weeks. Rankings for searches in your neighbourhood usually move in 3–6 months, because new pages need time to be indexed and weighed against nearby salons.

A salon has peaks you can see coming: gift vouchers before 8 March (Women's Day, a major gifting date in Romania) and Christmas, bridal hair and make-up before wedding season, pedicures before summer. We publish those pages 2–3 months ahead so they are indexed when people start searching. In the week before 8 March a post on your profile still helps; a new page does not.

In the monthly report you look at calls, clicks to your site and booking link and, if your booking system is integrated with Google, bookings made straight from your profile.

Frequently asked questions

I have a big Instagram following. Do I still need a website?
Instagram shows your work, but someone searching Google for a manicure in their neighbourhood sees the map and websites first. Without a complete Google profile and service pages with price and duration, you have nothing to put in front of them. Ideally you have all three, linked to each other.
Isn't a listing on a booking platform enough?
It helps, but it is the platform's page: it decides how it looks and which salons appear next to you. You also need your own website and Google profile. The booking link in your Google profile can point to the platform you already use, and your name, address and phone number should be identical everywhere.
Can I give a discount to clients who leave a review?
No. Google forbids reviews in exchange for discounts or free services, and forbids asking only happy clients. You can ask every client the same way, for example with a QR code at reception or a message after the appointment. We then reply to every review on your behalf.
We also do Botox and fillers. Can you promote those?
Only if the procedures are performed by a licensed doctor, and then the College of Physicians' advertising rules apply. We do not build pages or do SEO for procedures a salon cannot legally perform.
